Until now, we’ve known that Guillermo del Toro is producing a new horror film called Antlers that may or may not actually involve antlers, and not much else — but maybe these cryptic photos that just emerged on Instagram could give us an idea.

Antlers is the chilling story of a teacher (Keri Russell) and her sheriff brother (Jesse Plemons) who become involved with a young student who hides a terrifying family secret. This is totally the sort of thing you’d expect in a sleepy Oregon town where nothing seems to happen.

The creatures unleashed on the internet only deepen the mystery. Whatever these entities haunting the sketchbook are, they don’t have antlers, but they are vomiting fire. Or blood. Or some kind of demonic ectoplasm. Could they have anything to do with the secret the boy is hiding? Could they actually be that secret? They can’t speak with their mouths full.

Next is a shot from behind the camera that shows half of Keri Russell’s terrified face. The rest is shrouded in darkness. She appears to be running away from something, though that something still lurks in the shadows. Is it the creature in the sketchbook, or something even worse? Nobody looks this petrified glancing over their shoulder when there isn’t a threat creeping out there.

The thing in the third photo has antlers. And teeth. And — are those eye sockets? It’s clearly a wood carving, but what else it’s supposed to be can only be guessed at. The last photo reveals the script, which is barely readable except for a few words (if you really come up close and strain your eyes). The only clear sentence is “I don’t know where to start”, unless you count the trailing “I don’t know…” further down.

We get it. We don’t know. In a previous interview with Collider, director Scott Cooper had mentioned that he was personally influenced by Halloween and The Exorcist, and that this does show up in the film, but how remains to be seen.
