The DC extended universe has faced some choppy waters recently, so it’s no surprise that more and more news is surfacing about the proliferation of Batman appearances in future films. Justice League’s disappointing box office return is having wide-reaching impact, and some new Caped Crusader information has come to light.
Jon Berg, producer of Justice League, has already stepped back from further DCEU productions, and now, judging from a Variety report, it seems Ben Affleck’s future role in the universe is equally unsteady: “While Ben Affleck is expected to appear as Batman in a standalone Flash movie, it is highly unlikely he will don the cape and cowl in Matt Reeves’ planned standalone Batman movie." Variety goes on to say that Reeves wants “to cast the role with fresh talent.”
This appears to show confidence in the standalones for the side characters of the League, but a wandering eye for its mainstays. Affleck's future has certainly been the cause of much speculation, with rumors swirling about with new Bat-casting rising almost daily. The newest actor to have his name thrown into contention is Jon Hamm, according to ScreenRant.
Who knows how likely it is that Affleck will be replaced by Hamm (or even Jake Gyllenhaal), but with so much changing so rapidly in DC Entertainment’s production department, anything seems possible. What do you think, does Don Draper seem like the perfect template for a brooding Bruce Wayne?
