The game was disappointing, as were most of the commercials, but these Super Bowl tweets are the proverbial dilithium crystals in the rough.
Super Bowl Sunday -- man, what a bust. Armed with some cheese dip, a lot of beer, and some friends, I was ready to absorb the annual sports ball and the multimillion-dollar advertisements. High hopes? Dashed. I mean, sure, Optimus Prime holding a sword while riding a dinosaur was pretty cool, but even then I was just thinking about which minority group Michael Bay would offend with Grimlock.
Then, like a beacon of hope, there came a Wil Wheaton and his captain, Sir Patrick Stewart. Now, you might have thought the picture of Sir Patrick and Sir Ian McKellen from last week represented the first and the last of Stewart's exploits with our American football. But, oh, you were very wrong. And thank goodness.
What begins as some simple, Stewart-grade machismo transforms quickly when Wheaton suddenly appears.
I really appreciate the "You're damn right" part since, obviously, Stewart was referencing the season-three episode, "Ensigns of Command." Yup. That is definitely what he was doing. Nothing pathetic or obsessive about my observation.
The only thing that's missing is an appearence from LeVar Burton to tell Wil to get the hell out of his engine room.
