Holden Matthews and company are back for another season of Freeform's Beyond, and the stakes just keep getting higher, as you can see in our exclusive behind-the-scnes clips from the first two episodes below.
Hot off of last season's trip into the Realm -- as well as notable moments like Holden kissing Willa days after losing his virginity to Charlie, a mysterious deal between Charlie and the Yellow Jacket Man, and Holden waking up in the forest yet again after seeing the Realm in ruins — Season 2 officially began with a double episode premiere on Freeform last night, which takes the show's mysteries, well, beyond.
From this point forward, there will be SPOILERS for Beyond Season 2. If you haven't seen the first two episodes, go back and watch before going beyond.
Everybody ready? Let's venture forth.
The first episode, "Two Zero One," finds Holden attempting to live a normal life with varying degrees of success. He's working at his father's warehouse, claims that he is "done with these powers" and just "wants a bed that fits." Still worried that he has screwed things up by destroying the bridge last season (he's right to worry), he goes on a date with Willa.
After Willa attempts to cook and gets everything wrong with pepper that there is to get wrong, the pair end up at a local pool hall, thanks to the very bad advice of one of Holden's co-workers. They're having a good time until another one of Holden's work chums (and former schoolmate) starts dimming their vibe. When things get violent, Willa decides to use a pool cue to take them all on, rather than have Holden use his powers. She is quite successful at this — she even flips the bartender some money afterward and delivers the ol' Han Solo classic line "Sorry about the mess."
In this first exclusive BTS clip, watch actress Dilan Gwyn (Willa) break down how they shot her pool-cue smackdown. It's clear that she was excited about it ...
Things didn't calm down in the second episode of the night, the aptly titled "Cheers, Bitch." Among the varying plot lines that include Charlie doing shady work for the Yellow Jacket Man, as well as Holden's parents getting to the bottom of Hollow Sky by reviving an old relationship, we also saw Willa throw a wrench into the mix by appearing unannounced at a Matthews family dinner.
In our second exclusive clip, the actors involved in the dinner scene — Burkely Duffield as Holden, Jonathan Whitesell as his brother Luke, Michael McGrady as his father, Tom, and Romy Rosemont as his mother, Diane — talk about how they love scenes like this, because it allows them all to be together. In this way they are like a real family, until, inevitably, somebody crushes a wine glass to pieces.
They also talk about how actors have to carefully monitor food consumption in scenes like these, as varying coverage might have an actor stuffing themselves to an uncomfortable point.
Though we just got a double dose of Beyond, we're left with more questions than ever before. But we'll all have to wait until the next episode airs, Thursday, Jan. 25, at 8 p.m. on Freeform. And bonus: We'll have another exclusive behind-the-scenes clip the day after the episode airs.
