The biggest plastic mecha model ever just walked out of a Japanese video game

Video game titan Sega and Kotobukiya, the toy company that's responsible for those eerily accurate anime, manga, and video game collectibles you’ve probably seen if you’ve ever been to a comic con, have just pulled off a life-size mecha from the new PS4 version of third-person shooter Border Break.

The 1:1 scale Blast Runner used to promote the PS4 release is also officially the most enormous plastic mecha model in existence. Bright Star - Sky Type towered over fans in Akihabara, seriously boosting that Instagram cred.

Bright Star was prototyped in digital 3D before the parts that would eventually form this monster robot were either cut out of styrene resin or 3D-printed. The hyper-detailed pieces were produced individually before some came together and took shape as hands, feet, and weapons before being placed on gigantic runners at Shinjuku station. Just imagine going to take the subway and missing your train because you were gawking at this.

However overwhelming this mega-bot is, it also has an insane amount of detail, which you should expect from Kotobukiya. Everything that would be micro has gone macro. It was designed to merge futuristic weapons with the industrial element of heavy equipment, with features such as a waist booster, footwheel, and a mounter used for switching up weapons. Not to mention those glowing blue lights.

There were several events held last month to level up anticipation for the upcoming release, including public cuttings of parts from their runners that pushed Kotobukiya that much closer to assembling not just the biggest plastic mecha figure it has ever made, but the biggest one in existence.

While Bright Star probably won’t be seen on anyone’s shelf in this form, Kotobukiya hinted that the version that will actually fit in your car and through your door will still have all the detail of the one you’d be able to pilot if it had the technology.
