It seems the most famous Ghostbuster of all has signed on for a small role in Paul Feig’s reboot. Score one for the ladies.
The buzz surrounding the all-female Ghostbusters reboot just gained some major buzz, with apparent confirmation that original star Bill Murray will appear in the film in an unknown capacity. The legendary actor played Dr. Peter Venkman in the 1984 original and its 1989 sequel, and has been one of the biggest opponents to a followup over the past two decades.
Murray has often said the only way he’d sign on for another Ghostbusters is if they found an idea that excited him creatively. So, cameo role or not, having Murray on the cast list for the reboot is a major win for Feig’s project. Murray joins fellow original co-star Dan Aykroyd in the reboot. Aykroyd reportedly has a very brief cameo, though he is not playing his original character from the first two films. So we’d imagine Murray will likely not be playing Venkman in the new version.
The new Ghostbusters film is shooting now and stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth. It’s set to open July 22, 2016.
What’s your take on Murray’s apparent return?
