Ever wanted to live out the plot of a classic slasher movie without actually dying?

Sure, watching the first three Friday the 13th movies alone with the lights off is enough for most people, but what if you want more? What if you want to head out to the woods, wander around in the darkness and try to avoid death and dismemberment at every turn ... but, you know, without having to worry about being dismembered for real?

Well, now you can.

This June, Ten Thirty One Productions (the folks responsible for the popular Halloween attraction the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride) invites you to the Great Horror Campout, a 12-hour immersive horror experience that allows you to venture out into a horror-filled camping environment and get the crap scared out of you without ever having to get a machete through the skull. For $149 you get to spend 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. in the 32-acre Los Angeles State Historic Park with accommodations in a tent, a buffet-style dinner and Continental breakfast and a host of horror-filled activities.

If you're up for the full scare experience you can participate in the "Hell Hunt," a scavenger hunt that will send you wandering in the woods searching for prized items and doing everything you can to avoid "elimination." From the event's official website:

First Rule: We can change the rules. When we want, for any reason we want and without any notice. You’ll need to be listening for the camp announcements for the rule changes if you have any hope of escaping elimination. The interactive “Hell Hunt” experience will give campers whom wish for a more extreme experience a run for their money as they come face to face (and closer) with their worst nightmares in order to retrieve the items for which they are hunting. The Hell Hunt will be an extremely high-octane hunt for items that will send campers bathing in the blood of a “Pope Lick,” partaking in a sacrificial voodoo ritual, digging through road kill amongst “Beasts of Bray” and more. Campers will have to use creative thinking and problem solving to find the most coveted items. Those “Hell Hunters” who complete the task will go home with a Golden Ticket to LA’s Most Popular Halloween Attraction, Los Angeles Haunted Hayride. The bearer of a Golden Ticket allows unlimited rides at LA Haunted Hayride 2013.

Wow, we don't even know what some of those words mean, but they sound terrifying. And if that doesn't freak you out enough, check out this disclaimer:

"During Great Horror Campout you may be forcibly handled, moved, bound, hooded, chained and subjected to simulated torture by our actors. You may witness strong verbal content, which may be considered offensive in nature. This content is part of the experience and is presented for entertainment purposes only."

If you're not up for something as intense as the "Hell Hunt," you can hang out in the "Safe Zone" for marshmallow roasting and horror movies by the fire. The event organizers warn that this will be "unsettling," meaning they'll still try to scare you, but not nearly as much as if you head out on the hunt. You can also just chill in your tent, but even then you'll be subjected to "High Startle" activites, so sleeping's probably not on the menu.

Right now, Great Horror Campouts are only scheduled for June 7 and June 8, and tickets will probably go fast. So, if you're interested, better head over to the tickets page HERE.
