Black Flash returns to the Arrowverse, just not actually on The Flash

Barry Allen has been busy fighting the future itself this season on The Flash, but one of his biggest comic baddies will be making a debut (or return?) on another CW show.

Executive producer Marc Guggenheim revealed "we're going to be seeing the Black Flash" on Legends of Tomorrow later this season. As comic fans are well aware, Black Flash is essentially a Speed Force grim reaper — and we may have already gotten our first look at him. When Zoom/Hunter Zolomon was being carried away by time wraiths at the end of The Flash’s second season, he transformed into Black Flash in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment. So it stands to reason he could be kicking around out there.

We don't know if Teddy Sears will be reprising his role as Hunter Zolomon to play Black Flash, though Guggenheim did say they’ve been tossing out some secret offers to previous actors to return later this season, so it’s certainly possible that could be in the cards. Of course, if he just keeps his scarred face and mask on (or is comprised of CGI), that wouldn’t really matter, anyway.

So how will Black Flash fit into the narrative? Best guess is that the gang and/or the Legion of Doom has been mucking around in the time stream enough to catch the attention of these freaky specters that haunt the Speed Force. Could they send Black Flash in to shut them down? Heck, could he be hunting down Eobard Thawne instead of causing trouble for the Legends?

Legends of Tomorrow airs Tuesday nights on The CW.
