Black Lighting is joining Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow on The CW for a full series order.

Starring Cress Williams (Hart of Dixie) as Jefferson Pierce, aka Black Lightning, the newest superhero TV show to join the Arrowverse will be executive-produced by Greg Berlanti (Arrow) Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil (Being Mary Jane) and Sarah Schechter (The Flash).

Along with Williams, the series also stars Nefessa Williams (Code Black), China Anne McClain (Descendants 2), and Christine Adams (Terra Nova).

The character was created for the pages of DC Comics back in 1977 by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden and in the upcoming TV series; Black Lightning is a retired superhero who has to put on the suit again to save his two daughters. Below is the show’s official synopsis:

Jefferson Pierce made his choice: he hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with one daughter hell-bent on justice and the other a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend — Black Lightning.

There's no word yet as to the number of episodes the first season will get. Either Black Lightning will boast a full season order like Arrow, Flash and Supergirl, or the network will give the series a slightly shorter number of episodes, like Legends of Tomorrow, with which to shine. Either way, I'm very excited about the CW picking Black Lightning to series. How about you?
