The CW will introduce its first African-American lead superhero in less than two weeks with Black Lightning, and a new trailer (as well as a promo) showcasing the concept of family features some electrifying new footage revealing that our hero’s daughters will also be boasting superpowers of their own.
Created by Salim Akil, Mara Brock Akil, and the Arrowverse’s own Greg Berlanti, Black Lightning stars Cress Williams in the role of Jefferson Pierce, the principal of a New Orleans neighborhood charter high school who's actually a metahuman who gave up his vigilante hero ways years ago when being Black Lightning took its toll on his family.
In the series, the lives of daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) are put in danger by DC villain Tobias Whale (played by Marvin “Krondon” Jones III), and his brutal local gang called The 100, prompting Pierce to put on the suit once more and resume his vigilante duties.
The newest trailer centers on our hero's daughters who obviously have inherited their dad’s metahuman powers. In the pages of the DC Comics, Pierce’s oldest daughter Anissa had the power of density manipulation (we see her kicking a washing machine clear off in the new footage released by The CW) while the youngest, Jennifer, was able of electricity manipulation like her dad which, again, you can see below as well as more new footage peppered in. Have a look:
The lesson here? Don't. Mess. With. Family.
Black Lightning also stars James Remar, Damon Gupton, Christine Adams, Chantal Thuy, and Grammy-winning artist Jill Scott as Lady Eve. The series will debut on The CW on Jan. 16 with the show's first episode aptly titled “The Resurrection.”
