Black Panther tickets are now officially on sale, and with them another confirmation: Select scenes from the film have been specially formatted for IMAX viewing.

Ticket purchase sites like Fandango are already promoting the availability of tickets for the much-anticipated film, which will be released within the first part of Marvel Studios' slate for 2018. In addition to standard screens, it's also been revealed that Black Panther has been specially formatted for IMAX by director Ryan Coogler.

The official announcement from IMAX confirms that certain segments were shot specifically to fill the expanded 1.9:1 aspect ratio, showing "up to 26 percent more image" than the standard. Some movies are not specifically shot with IMAX cameras and then formatted for the ratio later, but it sounds like Coogler has made the decision to do so in the case of specific scenes within the film. In terms of those panoramic shots of the world of Wakanda, the extra strain on your wallet may be worth it for the visuals.

Black Panther joins the ranks of several other superhero flicks that have employed the use of IMAX technology to provide an enhanced viewing experience, including Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight and Marvel's The Avengers.

Black Panther will be released on February 16.
