Wakanda forever! We’ve got some great news for Black Panther fans — and judging from recent box office reports — there are quite a lot of them. Marvel has announced that the Dora Milaje, the all-female warrior team that protects the hidden African country of Wakanda, will be getting its own spinoff comics miniseries this summer.
Starting this June, the Dora Milaje will get its own three-part story, beginning with Wakanda Forever: Amazing Spider-Man. Throughout the trilogy, Okoye, Ayo, and Aneka will travel across the globe to protect Wakanda — with or without the help of the Black Panther. In their all-new adventures, the trio will team-up with Spider-Man, the X-Men, and the Avengers.
In the first issue, written by Nnedi Okorafor (Black Panther: Long Live the King) with art by Alberto Jimenez Alburquerque, Wakanda’s greatest warriors head to New York to investigate a Wakandan threat with the help of a certain friendly neighborhood webslinger. The Dora Milaje’s globe-trotting adventures continue with Wakanda Forever: X-Men in July and Wakanda Forever: Avengers in August.
“I’m super excited about writing this storyline. Powerful disciplined African women with futuristic spears who faced their shortcomings and changed a nation? Oh, heck yeah, I’m so there,” said the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning Okorafor in a news release announcing the miniseries. “Fans of the Dora Milaje can look forward to seeing them out in the world beyond T’Challa and the Wakandan throne’s shadow. They’ll get to see the Dora Milaje come into their own, while teaming up with the unexpected.”
