If you just can't wait for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel (or Neill Blomkamp’s stalled Alien sequel), a new audio drama starring sci-fi legend Rutger Hauer should definitely see you entertained.
Dubbed Alien: Out of the Shadows, the audio drama is based on Tim Lebbon’s 2014 novel of the same name (which is actually set within the Alien canon). The story takes place between the events of Alien and Aliens, and follows a mining engineer who has to take on aliens and a rogue AI (played by Hauer). The release is tied into Alien Day (April 26, in honor of planet LV-426), which has seen all kinds of neat stuff released (we’re still geeking out over Mondo’s goo-filled vinyl soundtrack) this week.
"Working on such a famous franchise was a challenge, but an amazing one to have," Hauer said in a statement via The Verge. "It was fascinating to focus on just how powerful the voice can be for such a unique, non-human character like Ash. In the art form I work in, creating compelling audio drama is the ultimate illusion."
The audio drama is available now on Audible, and if you’re a fan of the Alien franchise, it’s well worth a listen. Plus, Rutger Hauer is great in literally everything. So there’s also that.
