It’s been five years since director Neill Blomkamp exploded onto the sci-fi scene with his indie hit District 9, but it sounds like he might finally be coming back to the franchise that made him famous.
Despite the fact that a District 9 sequel hasn’t manifested, Blomkamp has kept plenty busy the past few years. His sci-fi epic Elysium, starring Matt Damon, is opening soon with quite a bit of critical buzz. Plus he already has his next project, Chappie, in the pipeline.
But after that? It sounds like District 10 could be a real possibility, especially since the writer-director has already “written an 18-page treatment for District 10,” according to a profile in Wired. Aside from saying it’s “really f*%$ing cool,” he wouldn’t spill any details, but it's good to hear Blomkamp is finally figuring out where to take the world of District 9 next.
The first film did a great job of world-building, and we’re chomping at the bit to see what Blomkamp could do with a bigger budget and some time to play in the universe he created.
Would you like to see a District 9 sequel, or should Blomkamp stay focused on original fare?
