Ray Garrison lives. The soldier known as Bloodshot after being revived and augmented by some meddling scientists is making his first big-screen appearance, played by Vin Diesel, and is hoping to kick off a cinematic universe comprised of Valiant Comics characters. Now fans have a first look at how it plans to start things off thanks to the film's first trailer.
Playing before Terminator: Dark Fate, Bloodshot unleashes its title character's revenge-fueled origin onto the world. He died. They rebuilt him. He's back. And then he dies ... and then, like Terminator meets Edge of Tomorrow, he's back.
Take a look:
Bloodshot looks like it's taking the nanobot-powered soldier and giving him a manipulative organization pulling all his strings: erasing memories, eliminating foes, and rebooting him when things go wrong. The trailer's musical motif alone is enough to trip up comic fans.
This is Diesel's first comic book film since voicing the MCU's Groot and is already much wordier than that botanical hero. The film, from first-time feature director Dave Wilson (he's a partner of Deadpool's Tim Miller and a video game commercial specialist) and writers Jeff Wadlow and Eric Heisserer, is a little bit Wolverine origin and a little of Diesel's past genre work.
Bloodshot also stars Sam Heughan, Guy Pearce (who we see as the scientist who brought Garrison back to life), Eiza González, Talulah Riley, and Toby Kebbell -- and is aimed for Feb. 21, 2020.
