If the stars align, Boom! Studios founder Andrew "Andy" Cosby could be leading an epic war involving Heaven and Hell.
Posting on Twitter Wednesday, Cosby wrote: "I guess I can confirm I am indeed in final talks to write and show-run the new DIABLO animated series for Activision and Netflix. It's very exciting and I hope to the High Heavens it all works out."
This was in response to a fan's question from earlier this month, which asked if he was involved with Netflix's Diablo project. Cosby told the fan to check back with him at a later date, but assured that if he were to make a show based on the popular video game franchise from Blizzard Entertainment, it would be rated R.
If anyone can do justice to the angels and demons concept, it's Cosby, who penned the screenplay for the upcoming Hellboy reboot, starring David Harbour.
Designed by David Brevik, Erich Schaefer, Max Schaefer, Eric Sexton, and Kenneth Williams, the Diablo series began in 1996 and spawned two lucrative sequels and numerous expansion packs. Their plots revolve around demons (led by the eponymous Diablo) fighting against humans (some of them magic users) and heavenly angels.
Building a rich fantasy universe with each installment and expansion, the Diablo games, along with World of Warcraft, have helped Blizzard become one of the leading names in game design.
Diablo III: Rise of the Necromancer was the last expansion pack to be released, going on sale in June of 2017.
