Oscar season is now entering the homestretch following the nominations announcement Tuesday, and as is the case every year there appear to be some predictable recipients and some disappointments.

None was perhaps more surprising than the fact that 2017's The Boss Baby strolled away with a nom for Best Animated Feature (an award it'll be vying for alongside The Breadwinner, Coco, Ferdinand, and Loving Vincent).

That's one more nomination than superhero hit Wonder Woman, which was surprisingly snubbed from every category and was definitely more of a critical darling than the Dreamworks animated comedy (which currently stands at a rotten 52% on the Tomatometer).

Of course, Twitter had some particularly strong responses to this revelation, although the reactions were mixed overall:

Even The Tick's Griffin Newman got in on the Twitter conversation:

One reporter pointed out that thanks to this year's Oscars, The Boss Baby now has one more nomination than some of the most classic films in movie canon:

Someone else posited a potential substitute nominee for the animated category, taking both critical and audience ratings into account:

What are your thoughts on this surprising nomination? Do you think Wonder Woman and other superhero films shouldn't necessarily be exempt from Oscar consideration? After all, Suicide Squad and Logan have picked up awards and nominations, respectively. Sound off with your picks or alternate suggestions in the comments!
