Brace yourself for the brutal new horror western Brimstone

Brimstone is an intriguing-looking indie horror pic set in the Wild West that hopefully won't get too overshadowed by bigger springtime releases like Logan, Beauty and the Beast and Kong: Skull Island.

Written and directed by Dutchman Martin Koolhoven (Winter in Wartime), it's the intimate story of a hellish preacher and his hunt for an escaped sinner amid the lawless depravity and blazing six-guns of the western frontier, with gentle nods to psychological thrillers like Bill Paxton's Frailty and Alan Parker's Angel Heart.

Matched with a portfolio of absorbing 19th-century landscapes and imagery, this harsh trailer has a menacing element to it that's hard to pin down ... though the sado-masochistic elements deliver a shuddering element of unnatural rage and painful spiritual salvation.

Here's the official synopsis:

Wrongly accused of a crime she didn’t commit, a frontier woman turned fugitive is hunted by a vengeful preacher in the menacing inferno of the old American West.

Have a look at the latest trailer and still images for Brimstone and tell us if you'll saddle up when it opens on March 10.
