Captain Marvel is still more than a year away, but we got our first look at Brie Larson in costume on Thursday. Even with something so exciting, fans were thrown for a loop at the "greenness" of her suit rather than the red-blue-and-gold outfit that the character wears in the comics. This prompted some loyal Marvelites to manipulate the set photos of Larson in Photoshop to get the colors right, and they actually did a really good job at it. Just have a look:
Reactions to the manipulation were positive, although one person did astutely point out that it would be even more perfect if Larson had Captain Marvel's trademark sash.
Here's the original green version:
Why the green? Many wondered whether the filmmakers were going the Green Lantern route and planning on editing Larson's entire costume in post. But then others pointed out on Twitter that this costume is more Kree/Skrull-inspired, which makes sense since Danvers has her DNA suffused with that of the Kree aliens.
Then there's the possibility that these photos may be from a post-credits sequence of Danvers returning to Earth after her '90s jaunt in space, which is why she's looking at the paper, to see what date it is. This theory is tied to the set photos of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) from a few days ago.
Captain Marvel, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, arrives in theaters on March 8, 2019.
