Brie Larson wants to bounty-hunt as Samus in a Metroid film and Twitter is behind her

After playing Captain Marvel in the MCU, Brie Larson has proven herself worthy of playing strong and badass female characters in the realm of science fiction. In fact, we'd say that the actress's turn as Carol Danvers was one hell of an audition for the role of galactic bounty hunter Samus Aran in a Metroid film — should Nintendo ever decide to make one, that is. In fact, the Oscar winner is totally down for the chance to square off with baddies like Ridley and Mother Brain.

"I would love that so much," Larson said during a Twitch livestream hosted by screenwriter Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). "I was Samus for Halloween two years ago. It was literally a $20 costume I bought off of Amazon, it was like nothing. I was so excited about it, and I posted a picture of it on Instagram of me and the costume, and it turned into this thing of people being like “Woah!” She was always my character that I played in Super Smash Bros. and I just loved her. So that whole thing started and I’ve definitely not put a squash to that story. I definitely want to make that movie, I definitely want to participate in that. So, Nintendo, once again, I would love to do it!"

In the court of public opinion, folks on Twitter seem to approve of the idea.

Samus made her world debut in 1986's Metroid for the NES. Since she was wearing a mechanized battle suit for all of the game, many players just assumed she was a dude. If they finished the campaign within a certain amount of time, however, the armor would be removed, revealing the protagonist to be a woman and effectively shattering gender-based expectations.

Nintendo is developing a fourth Metroid Prime title, although there's no release window because the company scrapped all of its progress last year, preferring to start from scratch with Retro Studios at the helm. The subsidiary was the original studio behind the Prime series and is also known for developing Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

Larson will return as Danvers in Captain Marvel 2. Right now, the Marvel Studios sequel is on course to hit theaters July 8, 2022. No writers or directors are attached yet.
