Bringing animated Star Wars characters to live action 'not part of the strategy' at Lucasfilm

An animated Clone Wars character will be jumping to live action in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but don’t expect many more to make the transition.

In reference to Forest Whitaker’s Clone Wars/Rogue One character Saw Gerrera, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy recently said via Comic Book Resources that fans shouldn’t start looking to the animated universe for hints as to what characters they’ll meet next in live action. Sure, crossovers can happen when it fits the story they want to tell, but Kennedy said the goal is rarely to bring an animated character to live action.

Here’s an excerpt from her comments:

“We don’t sit down and start isolating a list of characters and then build story around those. We really are starting with the stories themselves. If some of those characters might come in to what it is we want to do or say, we’ll consider it then, but that’s not part of the strategy, no.”

Put simply, it sounds like Saw is the exception, as opposed to the rule. That’s not to say Ezra or Kanan might not jump to from Rebels to live action at some point down the line, but don’t count on Lucasfilm weaving it into the overall strategy.
