Fans have been clamoring for a sequel to Army of Darkness ever since the first one blew our minds more than 20 years ago — and now Bruce Campbell says we should finally get those boomsticks ready.
While making the rounds at Wizard World Nashville Comic Con, Campbell (who starred as Ash in all three original Evil Dead films) was asked during a panel about the fate of a long-rumored sequel. Fans have never given up on the franchise, and Fede Alvarez’s recent remake only helped heighten the awareness and draw of the franchise.
So what’d Campbell have to say? After noting he’s probably got the time to make it these days (though Sam Raimi is admittedly pretty busy) and cracking jokes that a sequel would look more like Bubba Ho-Tep than Army of Darkness, Campbell dropped a bombshell — “Yes.”
Here’s an excerpt from his comments:
“The last one was twenty-two years ago. I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I used to be busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here. Ash would have to stop occasionally from chasing some deadite to catch his breath. Maybe we could do that, I guess. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker. That would be all right. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it ...All right, sir, the answer is yes.”
Sure, Campbell is in his mid-50s at this point. But a sequel could still work. Heck, his lengthy stint on the recent spy series Burn Notice shows he can still kick some ass. Just trade out the thugs for deadites — and boom! There’s your sequel.
What do you think? Does the world still need an Army of Darkness sequel?
