With Elizabeth Banks already signed on to play Power Rangers' big bad Rita Repulsa, it looks like the good guys are also getting their own A-lister.
The production has confirmed Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) will be playing the Power Rangers leader Zordon, typically portrayed in the original series as a big floating head that helps guide the Power Rangers as they slug it out with all kinds of wacky bad guys. Signing Cranston puts a very serious actor in the role, which makes this project all the more interesting. Could this actually be ... good? It also begs the question: Will Cranston actually be in the film, or just a projection of his floating head?
Crazy bit of note: This actually marks the Oscar-nominated actor's return to the franchise, as he provided some voice work during the first season. Cranston voiced the characters Snizard and Twin Man in the first season of the show back in the 1990s. So, yeah, full circle?
The Power Rangers film is directed by up-and-comer Dean Israelite, who helmed the 2015 found-footage sci-fi flick Project Almanac. Along with Cranston and Banks, the film stars Becky G as Yellow Ranger Trini, Ludi Lin as Black Ranger Zack, Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger Jason, Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger Kimberly and RJ Cyler as Blue Ranger Billy.
