If you’ve ever wanted to hunt down Cylons and play in the politics of Ronald D. Moore’s Battlestar Galactica universe (for real), you’re in luck — there’s a LARP for that.
A massive, live-action role playing (LARP) game set in the BSG universe has been created in Sweden, with its own massive storyline and 140 new characters created specifically for the event.
Set on a retired naval destroyer, which served as a stand-in for the Colonial ship the Monitor Celestra, the three two-day sessions allowed fans to play a part among the ship’s civilian crew facing a military boarding party. Oh, yeah, and don’t forget about the sleeper Cylon agents lurking around.
The game’s creators used more than $160,000 to make the event happen, incorporating dozens of staff members to play out the tense scene. The Verge has an excellent writeup of the project, which also recaps how the three sessions ended: surrender to the Cylons, an ethnic cleansing and the ship’s explosion.
Yikes. So, not a lot of very happy endings to be found, apparently. Which, honestly, kind of fits.
If you’re feeling left out, the developers are hoping to launch another session in the U.S., which would be a welcome addition for any fan still hoping to make their own ending to the cult-fave series.
