Season 2 of Supergirl saw the series grow in a lot of different ways, but one thing it was clearly lacking was Calista Flockhart’s Cat Grant. Well, that’s being (partially) rectified in Season 3.
While speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, series showrunners Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner revealed Flockhart will definitely be back for the Season 3 premiere, and is signed on to recur in some capacity throughout the season. Flockhart was technically recurring in Season 2, as well, though she largely vanished for most of the year before making a triumphant return to National City in the season finale.
Melissa Benoist teased Flockhart’s appearance in the season premiere is “really clever,” and at this point, we’ll take whatever Flockhart we can get. If she really doesn’t want to move from the West Coast to Canada for production, why not make it a running joke and literally have her telecommute in every few episodes? You solve the location dilemma, and keep Cat as a presence in the show. Ooh, or a Cat hologram? Okay, that’s a little crazy, but you get where we’re going. There are ways to keep that Cat Grant snark around, you just have to get a little more creative.
Here’s hoping, at least.
Supergirl Season 3 premieres October 9 on The CW.
