One of the biggest genre trailers to be unveiled at this year's San Diego Comic-Con is that of the DCEU's standalone Aquaman movie from acclaimed horror director James Wan. Taking to Twitter, Wan teased the debut trailer by posting a cryptic photo from an editing bay with the caption: "Working overtime to put the finishing touches for this coming week!! Eeeeeee #SDCC2018."
The large screen of said editing bay depicts some resident character wielding the Trident of Neptune, as they stand on an outcrop of rocks with an epic ocean spray and whale tail in the background. We can only speculate on the individual in the photo, but from this distance, it looks like they're wearing some kind of helmet, leading us to guess that it could be one of the film's villains, Black Manta (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Or perhaps its Aquaman or a fellow hero, just sporting some different armor.
Take a look at the tweet below and let us know who you think is in the photo.
In addition to Jason Momoa's Arthur Curry, Aquaman is jam-packed with celebrities like Nicole Kidman (Queen Atlanna), Amber Heard (Mera), Willem Dafoe (Nuidis Vulko), Patrick Wilson (Ocean Master), and Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus).
Of course, this underwater adventure won't be the only major tentpole to be teased at SDCC 2018. Fellow DCEU installment Shazam! will definitely have some sort of presence along with Neil Marshall's Hellboy reboot, Shane Black's Predator, James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez's Alita: Battle Angel, and, hopefully, Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel (though Marvel is looking to lean more on its TV offerings at this year's event).
Written by Will Beall (a co-writer on the upcoming Venom), Aquaman splashes into theaters December 21.
