If you’ve ever wanted to live out an H.P. Lovecraft nightmare, this should do the trick.

Lovecraft’s particular brand of horror has colored the genre across pretty much every medium for decades, and the new video game Call of Cthulhu aims to mine it all for one terrifying journey. The PlayStation 4 game follows a private investigator who heads down a rabbit hole of terror while investigating a mysterious death.

The first trailer here doesn't seem to show off any gameplay, but it does one heck of a good job of setting the mood: It's surreal, nightmarish and pretty much everything you'd expect from a game with "Cthulhu" in the title.

Here’s the game's official logline:

A private detective, Edward Pierce, is used to trusting his instincts, but with whale mutilations and disappearing bodies, this is only the beginning as reality becomes skewed. As your investigation leads you closer to the sphere of influence of the Great Dreamer, you will start to doubt everything you see. You will have to find balance between your own sanity and your determination in finding out what lurks in the shadows ... as they say that madness is the only way that can bring you to the truth.

Call of Cthulhu is set to hit shelves later in 2017. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think:
