Can Will Smith help James Cameron's Fantastic Voyage keep its director?

Development of Fox's Fantastic Voyage is moving slow as coagulating plasma, and we think we know why. Director Shawn Levy isn't happy with the way things are going, and he might jump ship (pun intended) if a certain former Fresh Prince doesn't sign on.

Levy has been waiting around for the right financing and cast, and neither has been easy to come by. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the movie isn't officially greenlit? Levy, who is the third director to have been attached to the remake (after James Cameron, who stuck around as producer, and Paul Greengrass) wants Fantastic Voyage to be headlined by a big name, but the studio doesn't feel comfortable shelling out "big name" money.

What actor does Levy have his eye on? Will Smith. The director is meeting with the Men in Black III star in the next couple weeks, and if all goes well, he might stick around. Not only that, but if Smith signs on Fox will probably change its tune because of his blockbuster resume. They don't call him "Mr. 4th of July" for nothing!

So, in some strange way, the future of Levy and Fantastic Voyage is in the hands of an actor. If Smith passes and they can't find an equally awesome substitute, Levy's as good as gone.

Who would you like to see in the new Fantastic Voyage?
