Details on Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s Captain Marvel movie have been relatively scant, despite knowing the general timeline. We’ve seen Captain Marvel in costume (or a pre-viz version of the costume that could be recolored later), but we’ve seen little to nothing of her antagonist.
There’ve been some chair pics on actress Gemma Chan’s Twitter, but today we see the first hint at her portrayal of Minn-Erva.
Doctor Minerva is Kree, like Guardians of the Galaxy's Ronan the Accuser (who may well be appearing in the movie with her, as Lee Pace was confirmed to be involved), and a geneticist with tendencies toward espionage. In the comics, she gets Captain Marvel-esque powers after trying to reproduce Captain Mar-Vell’s altered genes, which could be a great mirror baddie for Brie Larson’s hero.
While we can’t see anything of Minn-Erva’s costume, and the makeup department will have worked their magic on the actress, we can see that Chan’s bringing a short-haired look to the villain:
Chan has wrapped filming, but we won’t get a chance to see her really work some magic until Captain Marvel crashes into theaters on March 8, 2019.
