Can Joe Johnston convince Lucas to let him make a Boba Fett film?

Boba Fett is one badass bounty hunter in the Star Wars universe, as well as an unaltered clone of stormtrooper template Jango Fett. Some fans have wanted to see a movie starring the Fett, rather than the Jedi. But none of the fans have any pull with George Lucas, intellectual property holder of the Mandalorian mercenary. Except Joe Johnston.

Joe Johnston isn't just the director of the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger. He was also the effects illustrator for Star Wars, as well as the art director for The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Raiders of the Lost Ark, and he worked in various capacities on several other Lucasfilm projects. It's safe to say that he and George are fairly tight.

According to Screen Rant:

"I'm trying to get George to make a feature based on Boba Fett." When asked if he would direct the film Johnston said simply, "I would like to, it would be a lot of fun."

Given his history with Lucas, as well as his filmography (he directed The Rocketeer, October Sky, Jumanji and others), there's no better person—except perhaps Lucas himself—to bring the future Sarlaac escapee to the big screen.

Tell us what you think. But first, imagine a Boba Fett movie that has this video (NSFW lyrics) in the soundtrack:
