The litter for the Cats musical grows while The Boy 2 casts Katie Holmes’ son in this casting news twofer.
First up, Jason Derulo joins the ever-growing clowder to star the live-action film adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats musical, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The singer-songwriter behind such hits as “Goodbye,” “Colors,” and this ridiculously catchy tune will play Rum Tum Tugger, a rebellious cat that would do anything just to get up next to you.
Derulo joins a cast that includes Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Francesca Hayward, and Rebel Wilson. Tom Hooper will direct from a script he co-wrote with Lee Hall.
Production on Cats is set to begin next month, with a theatrical release slated for December 20, 2019.
Next, Christopher Convery (Gotham) has been cast in The Boy 2, the sequel to STXfilms’ 2016 horror film. Katie Holmes is set to star.
Per Deadline, Convery will play Holmes’ son, Jude, who befriends an unnervingly lifelike doll he calls Brahms. We’re guessing that zany antics, or the stuff of nightmares, ensue.
The Boy 2 centers around a young family that moves to Heelshire Mansion, unaware of the events of the first film, because they’re of course unaware that they’re characters in a horror film and don’t have access to house-hunting apps like Zillow.
The Boy 2 reunites the directing and writing team of William Brent Bell and Stacey Menear from the original. Shooting is set to begin in January.
