DC’s upcoming live-action Doom Patrol series has found its Cyborg and The CW’s The Flash is getting a recurring character for its fifth season in this DC-centric casting roundup.
Warner Bros. Television has announced that Joivan Wade will play Vic Stone, aka Cyborg, in the Doom Patrol TV series. Wade is an English actor who has appeared on Doctor Who and in The First Purge.
So far, it’s been revealed that Diane Guerrero (Orange Is the New Black) has been cast as Crazy Jane, while April Bowlby (The Big Bang Theory) will play Elasti-Woman. Whether Cyborg will be a formal part of the team alongside Crazy Jane and Elasti-Girl is uncertain at this time.
Described as a reimagining of one of DC's most beloved group of outcast superheroes, Doom Patrol is one of the original live-action series being produced for DC’s upcoming streaming service, known simply as DC Universe. Produced by Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, Doom Patrol has been given a 13-episode series order and begins production this year. The series will be executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns, Jeremy Carver and Sarah Schechter.
Doom Patrol will debut on DC Universe next year.
Speaking of Greg Berlanti, Deadline is reporting that Kiana Madeira has landed a recurring role on one of his many, many shows, The Flash. For The CW superhero drama, Madiera will play Spencer Young, aka Spin, an aspiring social media influencer who leaps at the opportunity for fame when she discovers a new hero in Central City.
What’s interesting about this role is that Spin is male in the comics, but producers decided to switch the character’s gender for the show. (Hey, it worked for Freddie Lounds’ character in Hannibal.)
Madeira has appeared in Facebook’s Sacred Lies, NBC’s Taken and SYFY's Dark Matter. Spin will be introduced in the fourth episode of the upcoming fifth season.
The Flash returns to The CW for its fifth season on October 9.
