In casting news today, we have an extraordinary actor joining the ranks of Godzilla vs. Kong, some very familiar faces boarding Nine Lives, and The CW's Black Lightning filling out its cast with a recurring antagonist.
First off, Deadline reports that Lost and John Wick actor Lance Reddick is joining the monster mash of Godzilla vs. Kong. The veteran of The Wire joins previously cast Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgård, Jessica Henwick, Julian Dennison, Kyle Chandler, and Rebecca Hall. There is no word yet on who Reddick will play, but he is sure to be intriguing, as his characters often are.
The epic brawl for the ages (which recently began production) is expected to smash into theaters on May 22, 2020.
The original novelette takes place on a moon-base for off-world drilling, and deals with two jaded workers there who get very excited about receiving additional human company, but instead of this, they receive 10 clones. The dark comedy is set to start shooting next summer, with Miller and Common starring as the two workers.
Siri Rodnes will direct, as well as co-write the screenplay with Tom Basden. Le Guin herself passed away earlier this year, and any project based on her works is cause for excitement.
Finally today, Deadline is also reporting that the CW Arrowverse-adjacent series Black Lightning will bring in RJ Cyler (Power Rangers, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) in a recurring role. He is set to play Todd Green in the show's second season, who is described as "a gangly and awkward tech genius who's passed over for a research grant." They also say that he does not take this well, and will join antagonist Tobias Whale (Marvin Jones III).
Cyler was most recently seen in the new Power Rangers film, where he played the Blue Ranger. But how will he fare against Black Lightning himself (Cress Williams)? We'll have to tune in Tuesday nights on The CW to see.
