Who watches the Watchmen?
Jeremy Irons, it seems: The Oscar-winning actor has been cast in a leading role in Damon Lindelof’s Watchmen pilot for HBO, Deadline is reporting. Irons joins a cast that includes Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens, and Andrew Howard.
Based on the groundbreaking graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, Watchmen takes place in an alternate reality in which the publication of Action Comics #1 (the first appearance of Superman) inspires not superhero comics, but superheroes in real life. As a result, costumed crimefighting is illegal, unless given explicit government exemption. According to Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers) the adaptation for HBO is not a faithful remake of the landmark 12-issue comic series, but rather an original story that repurposes them.
The media outlet provided no details on Irons' role beyond him playing “an aging and imperious lord of a British manor.” Yeah, no characters from the original comic are springing to mind there.
It looks as though Angela will be making more appearances on the second season of Netflix’s Lost in Space: Sibongile Mlambo has been upped to series regular, Netflix confirms to SYFY WIRE. Mlambo (Black Sails) was in five episodes in Season 1.
The Netflix series is a reimagining of the campy sci-fi series from the 1960s about the Robinson family marooned on a dangerous alien world. Lost in Space stars Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, Maxwell Jenkins, Mina Sundwall, Taylor Russell, Ignacio Serricchio, and Parker Posey.
