Deadpool director Tim Miller's upcoming Terminator reboot has reportedly found its star, and she's becoming an increasingly familiar face in genre.

Variety reports that Mackenzie Davis, best known as one of the leads in the acclaimed AMC tech drama Halt and Catch Fire, is "in negotiations" to join the still-untitled sixth Terminator film in a leading role. Davis — also known for supporting roles in The Martian and Blade Runner 2049, and a leading role in the fan-favorite Black Mirror episode "San Junipero" — has reportedly been Miller's top choice for some time, and casting her came down to getting the seal of approval from producer and Terminator co-creator James Cameron.

If she officially signs on, Davis will be "one of the new faces" of the rebooted franchise, per Variety, much like the Sarah Connor (played originally by Linda Hamilton and later by Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke) in the first two Terminator films. We don't yet know exactly what that will mean in terms of story, but there's a strong possibility the film will mark Davis' chance to prove she can be a full-blown action-movie star. If the film succeeds and a planned trilogy unfolds, she'll be poised to become a major blockbuster force.

The sixth Terminator film will be directed by Miller from a script by Billy Ray (The Hunger Games) and a story by Miller, Cameron, and producer David Ellison. Cameron has assured fans that the new film will ignore all of the franchise's sequels except Terminator 2, creating a new timeline for the series. Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return in the title role, and Linda Hamilton will return as Sarah Connor for the first time since 1991.

The Terminator reboot arrives July 26, 2019.

In TV casting news, The Originals star Yusuf Gatewood will join Harriet Dyer (No Activity) in the NBC pilot In Between Lives, a new supernatural cop drama in which an LAPD detective and an ex-FBI agent team up with a woman (Dyer) who has clairvoyant powers. While her clairvoyance helps her to solve strange cases for the LAPD, it also opens her to communicating with the dead, who want her to help them resolve issues from their old lives.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gatewood will play Damien Parrish, the former FBI agent who was a criminal analyst for the bureau before joining the LAPD homicide division. His character is described as "damaged" and an "outsider," though we don't know much else about his role just yet.

With The Originals' final season set to premiere next month, In Between Lives could be Gatewood's ticket to another solid genre TV gig after playing the dual roles of Vincent Griffith and Finn Mikaelson on the CW's Vampire Diaries spinoff for five seasons. The new series, written by Madam Secretary's Moira Kirland, could join NBC's 2018-2019 television season if it gets picked up beyond the pilot phase.
