It's tough to let go of The Grudge. A remake is underway of the 2004 horror film, itself a remake of the 2002 Japanese film Ju-on. And now, according to Deadline, Andrea Riseborough is in talks to star in the film as a detective who is also a single mother.

Riseborough is probably best known to SYFY WIRE readers as Tom Cruise's partner Victoria in Oblivion, and as Mia Nolan in "Crocodile," a terrifying episode from Season 4 of Black Mirror. She has also appeared in Birdman, Battle of the Sexes, and Nocturnal Animals.

The Grudge is about the curse that is formed when someone dies in extreme rage or sorrow. Both Ju-on and The Grudge were directed by Takashi Shimizu. The remake is being written and directed by Nicolas Pesce (The Eyes of My Mother) for Sam Raimi's Ghost House Pictures.

In other casting news, The CW has filled a bunch of roles for upcoming pilots. In the Charmed reboot, Madeleine Mantock has been cast as one of the lead sisters, opposite the previously announced Melonie Diaz and Sarah Jeffery. The "fierce, funny, feminist" reboot of the 1998 TV series follows three sisters who, after the death of their mother, discover they are witches. Mantock will play Macy, a geneticist whose world is turned on its head when she learns the supernatural is real. Previously, Mantock has had regular roles in Into the Badlands (see photo above) and The Tomorrow People.

Meanwhile, another CW reboot, Roswell, has cast five series regulars in the pilot. The original series was set in high school; the reboot ages the characters and adds an immigration twist to the plot, making the whole thing more political than the original 2000 series. The reboot is being written by Carina Adly MacKenzie and directed by Julie Plec, both from CW's The Originals.

Speaking of The Originals, alum Nathan Parsons (Once Upon a Time, True Blood, as seen above) will play Max, a Roswell police officer who has been keeping his extraterrestrial origins a secret from everyone. He reconnects with Liz (played by the previously cast Jeanine Mason), who comes back to town and discovers his secret. Lily Cowles (BrainDead) has been cast as Isobel, and newcomer Michael Vlamis will play Michael, both aliens hiding in Roswell. Tyler Blackburn (Pretty Little Liars) will play Sgt. Alex Manes, a gay sergeant who returns home from deployment and is ready to give up the man he loves in order to live up to his father's expectations. Heather Hemmens (Hellcats, Complicity) will play Maria, Liz's former best friend who is oblivious to the aliens living in Roswell.
