The world of Swamp Thing, one of the new shows coming to the DC Universe streaming service, is continuing to fill out in some delightfully swampy ways. Hot on the heels of the announcement that Len Wiseman would be directing the show's pilot, we have word today that the role of Abby Arcane, a very important character in the lore of Swamp Thing, has been cast.

According to Deadline, the role will be played by Crystal Reed. She is no stranger to DC on the small screen, having recently played Sofia Falcone (daughter of Carmine) on the fourth season of Gotham. Reed has also appeared on Teen Wolf

Deadline describes this version of Abby as "smart and caring," adding that she is is a CDC Doctor who is tasked with getting to the bottom of a swamp-borne virus. She will have a "strong sense of empathy" and this will put her in a place to face some demons from her past. Eventually, she will cross paths with the title character— Swamp Thing, the mystical guardian of the green.

In the comics, Abby Arcane is one of the most prevalent characters in Swamp Thing lore, having first appeared in Swamp Thing #3. Her relationship with the talented Mr. Thing has evolved over the years — they've been partners, which eventually turned into a marriage. It may not be easy to imagine just how Sofia Falcone would marry a giant green swamp creature, but we're eager to find out... if the show goes that route, that is.

Reed's Sofia Falcone was a wonderful part of Gotham's ever-reliable craziness this past season, so this seems like excellent casting to us. What about you? Let us know in the comments!
