The Purge TV series has found its two stars. SYFY WIRE has confirmed that Gabriel Chavarria has been cast as Miguel, and Jessica Garza will play Penelope, the two leads of the show.
Miguel is a U.S. Marine who returns home on Purge Night after receiving a cryptic letter from his little sister. Penelope belongs to a Purge-worshiping cult and has volunteered to be sacrificed, but the "ghastly realities" of the Purge cause her to rethink this plan of action.
Chavarria is best known for his role in East Los High. He has also appeared in War for the Planet of the Apes and Aquarius. Jessica Garza most recently starred in Six, a TV series that follows Navy SEAL Team Six.
The Purge TV series is being written, directed, and produced by franchise creator James DeMonaco, and being produced through Blumhouse Television and Universal Cable Productions. An air date has not been set, but expect to see it on SYFY.
On the big screen, Captain Marvel has added Gemma Chan to the cast. She will play Minn-Erva (aka Doctor Minerva), who is a Kree geneticist and spy, who, according to the Marvel Universe Wiki, "traveled to Earth because she gained knowledge that Captain Marvel had a genetic code that might unlock the potential of their race." But that's the original Captain Mar-vell, whose DNA eventually melds with Carol Danver's. So we'll have to see how any of that plays into the film, as plot details are still being kept under wraps.
Chan is best known for her dual role in Humans as Mia and Anita. She has also appeared in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Transformers: The Last Knight.
Brie Larsen will play Danvers in the '90s-set film, which is currently scheduled for release Mar. 8, 2019.
