ABC's Castle is going where no man has gone before by having Star Trek: The Next Generation's very own Cmdr. William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes) helm an upcoming episode of the show. But that's not all.

TV Line reports that the former Enterprise-D and E commander will be directing a season-five episode that'll have Rick Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) go into the brilliant but sometimes scary heart of geekdom at a Comic-Con-style convention.

The episode will find Castle and Beckett investigating a murder (will the murder victim wear a red shirt? 'Cause that would just be AWESOME) at a science fiction convention, putting them smack down the middle of a "world of egotistic celebrities, diehard fans and enough drama for two galaxies," according to series creator Andrew Marlowe.

Are you guys ready to bet there will be Star Trek and Firefly references aplenty? Maybe Castle will come across a Castle version of his Firefly character, Capt. Mal Reynolds, aka Captain Tightpants. Anyhow, cue massive geek references all across the board.

Just as we like it!

This episode will actually mark the second time Frakes has directed an episode of Castle. He directed the season-two episode "Kill the Messenger."

Castle's fifth season returns on Monday, Sept. 24, at 10/9c.

So, if you guys aren't already Castle fans, will you be particularly tuning in to that sci-fi-themed episode helmed by Jonathan Frakes?
