If there was ever a hitmaker for small-screen superheroes, it's Arrow and Flash mastermind Greg Berlanti — and he's about to have another iron in the fire.
TV Guide reports that CBS has officially placed a series order for a Supergirl show, which has been in development for some time. It'll find the network getting in on the superhero game, following just about everyone else at this point. The series will star Melissa Benoist as 24-year-old Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, who also comes to call Earth her home. The series will follow Kara as she embraces her destiny to become a superhero.
Along with Benoist, the show will also star Calista Flockhart, Mehcad Brooks, Chyler Leigh and David Harewood. The series is being developed by Berlanti, along with Ali Adler and fellow Flash/Arrow collaborator Andrew Kreisberg. Berlanti has shepherded Arrow, The Flash and the upcoming team-up spinoff — but Supergirl will give him a chance to flex his (figurative) superhero muscles on a bigger network with a character who flirts with the big leagues of DC lore.
The series is aiming for a 2015-2016 season debut. Do you plan on checking it out?
