We just recently heard Channing Tatum would be taking over the fan favorite X-Men character Gambit, and now he's opened up about what he wants to see from the new and improved ragin' Cajun.

The actor did a wide-ranging interview with GQ, and along the way his upcoming X-Men spinoff project came up. According to Tatum, playing Gambit is a dream come true, and it’s essentially the only superhero role he's seriously pursued in his career.

Even better? He wants the character to be true to his antihero style, digging into his history as a hard-drinking thief who eventually finds his way onto the side of good. Here's an excerpt of what Tatum had to say about eventually joining the X-Men:

“[Gambit was] the only superhero I really followed. … He was the most real to me: smoking, drinking, women-loving, thief. He just looked cool to me. I've always loved him. And obviously he’s Cajun.”

Yeah, that’s pretty much exactly what we wanted to hear. Tatum definitely has the look to pull it off, and here’s hoping they can put together a script that’ll do the canon justice.

What do you think? Does it sound like Tatum has the right idea?
