Favorite of director Terry Gilliam, Derrick O’Connor died from pneumonia on June 29 in Santa Barbara, CA, according to Variety. The character actor was 77.
Dublin-born O’Connor pushed his considerable range to the limits over his 47-year career, starring as the villainous Pieter Vorstedt in Lethal Weapon 2 as well as appearing in three of Gilliam’s films: Time Bandits, Jabberwocky, and Brazil. In the latter, he played a member of Central Services, which you can see below:
Some of his other genre performances include small parts in the ‘70s sci-fi feature The Final Programme and the fantasy Hawk the Slayer, as well as Thomas Aquinas opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Satanic End of Days and as the captain of Deep Rising’s horror-bound ship.
The stage and screen actor was also a TV mainstay, working on shows like Alias and Ghosts.
