In 2014, Marvel Studios has Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy on its schedule. This week, they released photos from the Captain America sequel highlighting several new characters. Now they're giving Guardians of the Galaxy some much-needed attention. After months of waiting, they've unveiled the first official still from the summer blockbuster.

At first glance, the image may look old, but it's not. Shortly after the Marvel panel at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the studio released some concept art. It featured the main characters (Gamora, Peter Quill/Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Drax and Groot) in a police lineup. The same image appeared at the end of the footage shown during the presentation. If you compare the two, the changes are obvious.

Here's the official synopsis:

An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits — Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

In the artwork, the characters are positioned differently. We can tell Gamora's hair has been altered and Star-Lord's gone from having a long trench to a waist-length jacket. Some things that worked in theory didn't make the transition to the film. Here's the original concept art.

What do you think of the changes? Are they for the better or worse?
