Though these cool Kodachrome publicity images from Universal's 1954 black-and-white horror feature, Creature From the Black Lagoon, have been around for a couple years, they're making their appearance once more through the never-ending backscatter effect of the universe. Originally taken as promo stills for a future Life magazine cover story, these revealing shots of the gilled monster played by Ben Chapman and co-star Julie Adams are some of the rarest Hollywood photos we've seen, as the shots were never used for the article.
Shot at the scenic Silver Springs State Park, Wakulla Springs and Rice Creek in Florida, then the safe confines of California's Universal backlot, this series of splashy images was color restored by comic-book illustrator and special effects artist Kerry Gammill.
Take a look and tell us if you believe this freaky fish tale deserves that big-budget Universal remake possibly starring Scarlett Johansson.
