The annual geek mecca of San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) kicks off this weekend, but the goodies are already starting to hit. Case in point: A bloody new trailer for Ash vs. Evil Dead’s return.

The trailer was released by musician Kid Cudi, and picks up with Ash (Bruce Campbell) and his pals living the high life in Jacksonville. Of course, this being an Evil Dead series, that doesn’t last long — and the gang takes off on a road trip to Ash’s hometown of Elk Grove, Michigan. The trio once again catches up with Lucy Lawless’ Ruby, but instead of being an adversary, they’re working together this time around.

As far as the “too gory” for SDCC claim? Well, sure, this show is crazy bloody (anyone who watched Season 1 can attest to that), but this red-band cut doesn’t seem all that wild and crazy (grading on the Army of Darkness curve, of course). Got to love the hyperbole, though.

Ash vs. Evil Dead returns this October on Starz.
