Not content to churn out blockbuster after blockbuster, Marvel is taking the show on the road later this year. Now we can take a peek behind the scenes.
Marvel is cooking up what looks to be one of the most ambitious live shows in history, with the help of the live-show experts behind the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus & Disney on Ice. The project is called Marvel Universe LIVE!, and it should be coming to a city near you within the next few months.
The first leg of the tour is set to launch in July, and full-fledged rehearsals are officially underway. The even cooler part? Marvel has live-action rights to every character in their stable, meaning that everyone from Spider-Man to Wolverine can join in with the Avengers.
Director Shanda Sawyer talked up the project, and if nothing else, it sounds like it should be one of the most insanely gigantic live-action shows ever:
“We did about six months of casting, and we’ve got acrobats, gymnasts, aerialists, motorcycle stunt people, marital artists, Parkour experts — and we really looked for people with the highest degree of skill.
The Hulk is probably the most challenging character to bring to life. Obviously he has to be incredible, and the Hulk is something that has never really been done in a live situation… It’s an original story, but it involves of course all the iconic heroes. It really pays homage to all of the mythos of the Marvel universe, and can combine all of the characters.”
