A film version of the hit sci-fi videogame franchise Deus Ex has been stumbling around development hell for more than a decade, but one aspiring filmmaker got tired of waiting.

This fan-made short film was directed by Moe Charif and was largely inspired by the hit videogame franchise, specifically the sequel Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It doesn’t follow the game’s story explicitly, but it’s definitely inspired by that world. Also, the effects work is solid. Well done, Moe. Well done.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Based on the video game Deus Ex Human Revolution, the film. Although the film doesn't follow the narrative of the game exactly, it remains true to the theme while focusing on the relationship between Adam Jensen, and his ex girlfriend Megan Reed, a scientist hand picked by Serif Industries to head Cybernetic Augmentations.

Megan is taken by the Illuminati and is asked to assist them in turning on a mysterious device but she refuses to cooperate. Jensen has been looking for Megan since she was kidnapped and has finally pinpointed her location. Adam faces a complication that he did not account for; Yelena Federova, an Augmented assassin is at the facility where Megan is being held. The film also taps, even if briefly, into Adam's mind and the struggle he must face on daily basis.

In case you’re still jonesing for a real-life Deus Ex film, the rights were revived in 2012 and a script is said to be in the works. Of course, there’s been no word in about two years, so I wouldn’t hold my breath.
