Terminator: Genisys won't be out until July 1, 2015, but we know some basic ideas about the upcoming movie: Freedom fighter John Connor sends trusted ally Kyle Reese back in time to save his mother Sarah from the evil Terminators before he is born -- only, unlike in the original movie, when Kyle visits 1984, he finds Sarah waiting for him with her own Terminator. But we don't know what the new future looks like ... until now.

According to the upcoming book Terminator Genisys: Resetting the Future by David S. Cohen -- which has a foreword by Arnold Schwarzenegger -- the future will look like Southern California. Only dirtier.

An excerpt from io9 explains that although the machines will look shiny, what's left of humanity will look rough, cobbled-together and aged.

"The resistance has repurposed corporate vehicles into war machines, made shoulder pads out of old tires, and fashioned body armor out of anything from paintball gear to license plates and street signs …. The elite fighters, like John Connor and Kyle Reese, get the best gear the humans can muster, while the rest make do with what they can."

In addition, the weapons were designed with lights and took six weeks to build. But the plasma rifles were real weapons, modified to "feel as real and authentic as possible."

Check out some of the concept art, and get a taste of things to come in a week and a half.
