While everyone was busy being excited about the Disney future of Lucasfilm, something pretty awesome is happening in the here and now. There's this little show, you may have heard of it—Doctor Who. Well, one of the titular Doctors is about to make a guest appearance in the Star Wars franchise very, very soon ... but who?
The Clone Wars is, for the moment, in the capable hands of the Cartoon Network. It's generally agreed upon as the one new element of the Star Wars franchise that everyone actually likes. Now imagine how many more people are going to like it when David Tennant guest-stars.
That's right. The Doctor who has more women in love with him/dressing up as him at conventions than any other is doing Star Wars. And he's playing a robot! One who will be instrumental, apparently, in the journey of many young Jedi in this coming Saturday's episode, "A Test of Strength."
How did this happen? The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni (who is a Doctor Who fan, of course) explains that "As a fan that has the privilege of playing in the Star Wars galaxy, I am always on the lookout for others who appreciate, and would enjoy, an opportunity to go on an adventure in George's galaxy far, far away. When I heard the Doctor himself, David Tennant, was a fan of Star Wars I knew I had to find a way to get in contact with him to see if he would perform on The Clone Wars. The result was 'Huyang,' an ancient droid in the service of the Jedi Order, whose sole task in life has been overseeing the construction of lightsabers. I thought David was perfect for the part and he did not disappoint. He delivered a performance which impressed even the Master himself, George Lucas."
David Tennant impressed George Lucas. Maybe Mr. Tennant should appear in more Star Wars-related things. Like a new trilogy, perhaps?
Here's a clip from the episode featuring Tennant. Take a look and tell us if you are equally impressed.
