Over the weekend, Ridley Scott traveled to Anaheim to attend WonderCon 2012. He was there to discuss a film we've all been waiting forâPrometheus. The director answered a few burning questions, talked about a sequel and debuted the brand-new trailer.
Scott participated in the 20th Century Fox panel moderated by Prometheus co-writer Damon Lindelof. They were joined by two of the film's stars Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender. But as expected, most of the time was devoted to Scott. It's been years since he's directed a sci-fi film, and fans wanted to know: What was the holdup?
Scott confessed, "I couldn't come across anything that was of interest to me." So how did he go from nothing to Prometheus? He looked back on his previous films Alien and Blade Runner and started from there. The film's "Alien DNA" is the root of its humble beginnings.
"I thought it was a genesis of a very small idea that hadn't really been examined," said Scott. "The story just started to evolve and take off into another universe. I think that's what we've managed to pull off very successfully."
Scott and Lindelof must have hit it off, because they have enough material for a sequel. Scott optimistically told the crowd, "If we're lucky, maybe there will be a second part to all of this. The film does leave you with some really nice big open questions."
The director's Prometheus experience was so good he plans to stick with sci-fi for a while. He declared, "I'll certainly do another science fiction film as soon as possible."
Until then, check out the latest trailer for Prometheus in its Alien-like glory. Watch and tell us what you think.
Prometheus opens in theaters everywhere June 8.
